Recipe: Deep-Fried Twinkies

Deep Fried Twinkies

Hostess Brands has closed! As slacker moms, junk food junkies and stoners mourn the loss our favorite brand,  I will be posting recipes for some of the best (and worst) Hostess treats of all time.

The DEEP-FRIED Twinkie is a guilty pleasure that can only be found at carnivals and state fairs.  Deep-Fried Twinkies are so white trash—you can’t even find them at the food court in the mall.  Lucky that you stumbled upon this blog post, right?

DEEP-FRIED TWINKIES

It goes without saying that you must have a deep-fryer to make this recipe.  If you don’t have a Fry-Daddy or even a BABY Fry-Daddy, you aren’t WT enough to be reading this.

INGREDIENTS:

6 Twinkies

6 Popsicle sticks

4 cups vegetable oil

Flour for dusting

Batter

1 egg

2/3 cup milk

2 Tablespoons sugar

1 1/4 cup flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

DIRECTIONS:

Chill or freeze Twinkies for several hours or overnight.

1. In a deep skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat until hot.

2. Beat egg and milk together in a bowl.  Set aside.  Mix all other ingredients in a separate bowl, then slowly add egg + milk mixture. Beat until smooth.

3. Get out your Popsicle sticks and poke one stick into each Twinkie ( lengthwise).  You want at least 1.5 to 2 inches of the Popsicle stick sticking out of the Twinkie so use as a handle.

4. Lightly dust your new “Twinkie on a stick” with flour and gently dip into the batter. Rotate Twinkie on a stick until batter covers it completely.  Don’t get too much or the Twinkie will break in half!

5. Dip the battered Twinkie in hot oil for about 3-4 minutes.   Most deep-fryers only let you do one Twinkie at a time.

6. Remove Twinkie from your Fry-Daddy and drain on a paper towel.

7. Sprinkle or roll your deep-fried Twinkie goodness with powdered sugar.

Your Twinkie on a stick is ready to eat!

Trust me when I tell you that you don’t want to know the fat or calorie count for this treat. If loving Hostess Twinkies is wrong, I don’t wanna be right!
